Greece U-21 Sees Euro 2017 Slip Away

UEFA U-21 EURO 2017 QUALIFYING - GROUP STAGE

Greece U-21 0 - 1 Israel U-21
Gozlan 74'

The Greek U-21 National Team was handed their third defeat in Euro 2017 Qualifying after losing to Israel 0-1 in Athens. The loss keeps Greece in 5th place, 4 points behind 2nd placed Albania, with 4 games remaining in Qualifying. Second place, which leads to a playoff qualifier, is the ultimate goal for the Ethniki Elpidon.

Both teams had chances to score in the match but the visitors created better opportunities. The deadlock was broken 14 minutes before the end when Gozlan found the back of the net for Israel. The win puts Israel in 3rd place behind Albania, with the Israelis having played two less games. Greece’s next qualifier is scheduled for September 2nd at home to Albania. A win will only do for the Greeks to keep their hopes alive for Euro 2017 Qualification.
