Tragic Olympiacos…

EUROLEAGUE TOP 16 - ROUND 13

Khimki 98 - 66 Olympiacos

In the must win game in Russia against Khimki for the Euroleague Top 16 Olympiacos put on a tragic performance and was handed a 98-66 defeat. A mini ‘miracle” is needed for Olympiacos to progress relying on many other results to go in their favor.

After a magical win last week at home to Real Madrid, Olympiacos fell easily to Khimki in today’s “final.” The 98-66 loss is Olympiacos’ second biggest defeat in their Euroleague history only behind a 51 point loss to Efes in 2005. The Greeks where behind early and Khimki took a 12 point lead to halftime. In the second half, Olympiacos was never in the game, ending the third quarter behind by 26 points. In the fourth, the lead only grew for the home side shaping the final score 98-66. The leading scorer, Hunter, was the only player for the Greeks to reach double digits with 14 points. Now, Olympiacos will need many results and a win in next week’s home game against CSKA Moscow to have any hopes for progressing to the Euroleague Playoffs.

The two possible scenarios for Olympiacos to progress, if they beat CSKA Moscow next week:

Scenario 1: Laboral Kutxa to defeat Real Madrid tomorrow, Laboral Kutxa to defeat Bamberg next Thursday, Zalgiris to defeat Barcelona next Thursday, and Khimki to defeat Real Madrid next Thursday.

Scenario 2: Laboral Kutxa to defeat Real Madrid tomorrow, Zalgiris to defeat CSKA Moscow tomorrow, Laboral Kutxa to defeat Bamberg next Thursday, Real Madrid to defeat Khimki next Thursday, and Zalgiris to defeat Barcelona next Thursday
