Bayern Munich and Barcelona have the advantage going into the Champions League Quarter-final second leg after today’s wins. Bayern defeated Benfica 1-0 while Barcelona was victorious 2-1 against Atletico.
Bayern’s night looked to be easy when Vidal opened the score in the second minute of play, however Benfica remained well in the game after the goal. The “Eagles” had two great chances with Jonas in the 55th and 65th minute, but he could not find the important away goal for the visitors. Lewandowski failed to “clinch” Bayern’s qualification with a second goal by not converting a great opportunity in the 90th minute. Mitroglou was in the starting XI for Benfica, but failed to make an impact in 70 minutes of play. Samaris was subbed on in the 90th minute for the visitors.
Atletico Madrid stunned the home fans by opening the score with Fernando Torres in the “Spanish” Champions League quarter-final. However, ten minutes later the scorer was sent off with a second yellow giving a man advantage to the home side. After the break, Barcelona pressed in the Atletico half creating many chances to score. It was Suarez who took Barcelona by the hand, with two goals, giving them the comeback win and lead going into the second leg.
