- GOLD For Vazaios! -
Greek swimmer, Andreas Vazaios, won the gold medal in the 200-meter medley at the European Aquatics Championships in London. Vazaios set a Greek record finishing the heat in 1:58.18!
Vazios defeated second placed Gal Nevo from Israel (finished in 1:59.69) and Portuguese swimmer Alexis Manacas Santos, who finished the heat in 1:59.79. The medley race consists of four different swimming strokes, including the breaststroke, butterfly, freestyle, and backstroke. Vazaios broke his own Greek record that he set in 2015 with a time of 1:58.92.
Vazaios is the second Greek to have won a gold medal, in swimming, at the European Championships. The first to do so was Aris Grigoriadis, who won the gold in the 50-meter backstroke in 2008 and the 100-meter backstroke in 2012. This is Greece’s second medal at this year’s European Championships in London. Apostolos Christou won the bronze medal in the 100-meter backstroke on Tuesday.
