GREEK SUPERLEAGUE PLAYOFFS - MATCHDAY 2

AEK 1 - 0 Panionios
Mantalos 57'

AEK defeated Panionios 1-0 at the OAKA Stadium for the 2nd matchday of the Greek SuperLeague Playoffs, bringing them to first place in the standings. Petros Mantalos scored the only goal of the game in the 57th minute.

In an average first half, Dioudis and Anestis denied their opponents on multiple occasions and the teams went into the break goalless. Panionios opened up in the second half and AEK found space to threaten the Panionios goal. Mantalos was brought down in the box in the 56th minute but the referee (Lambropoulos) failed to give AEK a penalty. The breakthrough came a minute later when Mantalos connected with Platellas’ cross and opened the score for AEK. In the 72th minute, AEK was once again not given a penalty when Cordero’s shot found Risvani’s hand in the box. The Kitrinomavri created many chances to seal their victory but failed to score a second goal. Panionios was close to stealing a point in the final 5 minutes, however Anesti made a great save from Bakasetas’ long ranged shot. AEK held onto their one goal lead and jumped to the top of the SuperLeague Standings.

AEK now sits on 5 points, one point ahead of PAOK and Panathinaikos. Panionios is in last place of the playoffs with one point. Full SuperLeague Playoff Standings here…In matchday three, to be held on May 23rd, AEK will travel to Panathinaikos while Panionios will host PAOK.
