Athanasiadis 22'
Mak 77'

PAOK defeated Panionios 0-2 in Nea Smyrni and finished the first half of the SuperLeague playoffs undefeated. The win keeps them well in contention for first place as they now sit on 7 points.

PAOK was the stronger side throughout the match and the opening goal came in the 27th minute with Athanasiadis’ strike. The Thessalonikiotes continued to control the pace of the game and they took the lead into halftime. In the second half, Panionios took advantage of the space given to them and they created opportunities to score on the counterattack. However, the visitors were able to put the game away when Mak doubled PAOK’s lead in the 77th minute. In the final minute, Panionios’ Oikonomou failed to convert a penalty and minutes later he was sent off with a second yellow card.

This is PAOK’s first victory in Nea Smyrni since 2012. The win puts PAOK in first place of the SuperLeague Playoffs (7 points), as they await the result of the match between Panathinaikos and AEK later today.
