England remained win-less in European Championship “openers” while Wales won their first ever game at the Euros. Russia equalized England in the second minute of stoppage time and Wales earned a late 2-1 victory over Slovakia.
Wales came away with a 2-1 victory in their first ever game in the European Championship Finals. Wales opened the score with Bale’s free-kick in the 10th minute and kept the lead into halftime. PAOK's Robert Mak provided the assist for Duda' equalizer before a late goal from Robson-Kanu gave Wales the historic victory.
England drew Russia 1-1 in the other match of Group B and failed to win their first ever opening game at the European Championships. England dominated the game and the breakthrough came in the final 15 minutes with Dier’s spectacular free-kick. However, a late stoppage time goal from Beretzuski gave Russia an important point in Group B. The English, who went 10 for 10 in qualifying, will look to improve and avoid another disappointing run in a major tournament.
Wales leads the way in Group B while England and Russia follow with 1 point. Bottom placed Slovakia will play Russia in the second matchday as Wales and England face-off in Group B’s other match.
