A passionate Albanian side deservedly defeated Romania (1-0) in the final matchday of Group A and finished third in the group. The only goal of the game came right before the halftime whistle with Sadiku’s header. Albania had many chances to increase their lead while Romania only threatened Albania’s goal with Adone’s shot that hit the crossbar in the 76th minute. Despite losing their first two games, Albania had good showings against Switzerland and France (lost in the final minute). They concluded group play with yet another good performance and rightfully finished third in the group. Today was a historic day in Albanian football as they not only scored their first ever goal at a major tournament, but also recorded their first ever win at a major tournament. Greece’s neighbors will have to wait until Wednesday to see if they will progress as one of the top 4 3rd placed teams from the group stage.

Switzerland 0 - 0 France

The top two teams in Group A faced off in their final match of group play. Switzerland was the better side throughout the game, but it was France that came close to an opener (were stopped by the woodwork on three occasions). After their late victories against Albania and Romania, the “favorites” of the tournament put on another mediocre showing, playing to a goalles draw against Switzerland. With 7 points, France finished 1st in Group A. Today’s draw satisfied the Swiss as they finished 2nd and progressed from Group A.
