greek superleague - matchday 1

Panionios 1 - 1 PAS Giannina
Ansarifard 43' Tzimopoulos 79'

One game, two great goals is the simple version of Panionios and PAS Giannina’s 1-1 draw on Thursday. In a match between two rivals for a playoff spot, Panionios looked to be on course for the win until PAS struck 12 minutes from the end.

Panionios came out the better side and were the more threatening team over the first 45 minutes. It was no surprise then when Karim Ansarifard opened the scoring a couple minutes from halftime. The Iranian striker who is the subject of numerous transfer rumors, picked up a pass from compatriot Masoud Shojaei and scored a beautiful goal from a very tight angle.

The home team could have added to their lead in the second half, but Ansarifard in particular missed a couple chances. PAS grew into the match more and Giannis Petrakis made his team more offensive with his substitutions. The move paid off as Themistoklis Tzimopoulos scored a fine long-range strike in the 78th minute earning Giannina a share of the spoils.

Today’s result moves Panionios up to 4th place while PAS Giannina sit in 7th place. Over the weekend, both teams will have away tests as Panionios travel to Panetolikos while PAS Giannina face PAOK in Thessaloniki.
