-- The First Time EVER… --
For the first time ever in the Greek First Division, the “Big 4” did not score a single goal, in separate matches, on the same matchday. Additionally, it is only the third time that all four dropped points, in separate matches, on the same matchday. AGONAsport.com takes you back…
The 5th matchday (or 3rd) of this year’s Greek SuperLeague was a historic one as the “Big 4” Olympiacos, Panathinaikos, AEK, and PAOK each failed to score in their respective matches. It was the FIRST TIME in the Greek First Division’s history that all four went goalless, in separate matches, on the same matchday. Over the weekend, Olympiacos fell to Larissa 1-0 while AEK, PAOK, and Panathinaikos played to goalless draws against Iraklis, Xanthi, and Panetolikos. In 2013, the four teams all went goalless in Matchday 27, but there was a derby between Olympiacos and PAOK. Panathinaikos lost 1-0 to Platanias and AEK dew Levadiakos 0-0. The same occurred in 1976 when AEK and PAOK played to a goalless draw in their derby, while both Olympiacos (Panserraikos 0-0) and Panathinaikos (Ethnikos 2-0) failed to find the back of the net.
Additionally, it is the third time in the First Division's history where all four teams dropped points, in separate matches, on the same matchday. The first occurrence was in 2000 on the 3rd Matchday of the season. Olympiacos drew Ionikos 3-3, Panathinaikos drew Aris 2-2, AEK drew Ethnikos Asteras 2-2, and PAOK played to a 1-1 draw against Panionios. The last time all four teams dropped points on the same weekend was in Matchday 29 of the 2006-2007 SuperLeague season. That year, Olympiacos drew Aigaleo 1-1, Panathinaikos drew Larissa 1-1, AEK and Xanthi finished goalless, and PAOK lost to Atromitos 2-1.
