-- Holebas Stops from the National Team! --
Shocking news for Greece after their 0-2 victory in Estonia...Jose Holebas has announced that he will not play for the Greek National Team anymore!
According to sportfm.gr, Jose Holebas has announced that he will not continue with the Greek National Team, putting an early end to his international career. Holebas informed the players and Skibbe of his decision after Greece’s victory in Estonia. The Watford player said that he had made his decision after Greece’s opening qualifier against Gibraltar and that it is final, despite the players’ efforts to convince him otherwise.
The fact that Michael Skibbe has given Holebas little playing time in Greece’s qualifiers (played 7 minutes against Cyprus none today versus Estonia) could have played a big role in the 32-year old’s decision. The exact reason is not yet known. In the post game press conference, Michael Skibbe did not mention Holebas’ announcement.
Jose Holebas has made 38 appearances with the Greek National Team since 2011, scoring on one occasion. He has gotten off to a great start in England with Watford as Greece loses a valuable player for the left-back and left-wing positions.
