Both AEK and Panathinaikos rounded off the first round of the Greek A1 Basket League regular season matches with victories against Apollon Patras and Prometheus, respectively.
A good fourth quarter gave AEK the 59-77 victory away to Apollon Patras in their opening match for the 2016-2017 Greek A1 Basket League. After a deadlock first half (35-35) AEK took a small 6-point lead into the final quarter, where the Kitronomavri proved to be too much for the hosts on both the offensive and defensive ends, coming away with the 59-77 win. Dixon was the leading scorer for AEK with 19 points as both Ivanovic and Milosevic played an integral part in AEK’s victory.
Panathinaikos did just enough to defeat Prometheus 81-71 in the empty OAKA “Nick Galis” Stadium in their Basket League opener. From the second quarter, the hosts began to build a comfortable lead (7 at the half) and after going up by 17-points at the end of the third quarter, the Prasini took their foot off the gas in the final 10 minutes. Bourousis had no opponent under the basket, scoring 18 points, as Pappas followed with 15 points. Panathinaikos will travel to Piraeus to play their eternal enemies, Olympiacos, in the second round of the Basket League.
