-- Pedoulakis Resigns from Panathinaikos --
Argyris Pedoulakis has resigned as coach of Panathinaikos! The surprising announcement comes after Panathinaikos’ heavy defeat to Olympiacos on Monday, however his decision has little to do with that result.
Argyris Pedoulakis’ second reign at Panathinaikos comes to an early end after he resigned as head coach of the club. The decision comes after Panathinaikos was defeated by 25 points at the Stadio Erinis kai Filias against Olympiacos in the Greek A1 Basket League’s first derby of the season. However, his decision to resign from the club has little to do with Panathinaikos’ heavy defeat to Olympiacos on Monday.
According to sdna.gr, the Greek coach met with members of the club to discuss the addition of a coach (from the NBA) that will specialize and focus on Panathinaikos’ offensive game. This summer when Pedoulakis signed a contract with Panathinaikos, there was a clause in the agreement that an offensive coach will be added to the coaching staff. Today, the topic was brought up, something that Pedoulakis did not agree with resulting in his resignation from the club.
Pedoulakis took over Panathinaikos at the end of last season when the Greek side was swept in the Euroleague Playoffs by Laboral Kutxa, which resulted in the sacking of Sasa Dordevic. After losing last year’s Greek Title to Olympiacos in a dramatic series, Pedoulakis bids farewell after 4 games this season, 2 in the Greek Basket League, one in the Greek Cup, and one in the Euroleague.
Pedoulakis’ successor will be a non-Greek coach. According to Mundo Deportivo, the Prasini have already come in contact with former Barcelona coach Xavi Pascual.
