APOEL looked to continue their perfect record in Group B as they traveled to Switzerland to play Young Boys. The Cypriots got off to a great start when Efrem opened the score in the 14th minute, but the hosts quickly responded with Hoarau’s goal. In the second half, Young Boys was awarded a penalty which was taken by Hoarau and saved by Waterman, but on the second chance effort Hoarau gave Young Boys the 2-1 lead. In the 82nd minute, Hoarau struck once again and sealed Young Boys’ first victory in this year’s Europa League group stage.
The win puts Young Boys back into the hunt for second place as they now sit on 4 points. APOEL remains atop the group tied with Olympiacos (defeated Astana 4-1) on 6 points. In two weeks the teams will play in Cyprus for matchday 4.
