Thurman scored twice in the first half to lead Kerkyra to a 2-0 victory over Asteras Tripolis. The Brazilian gave 3 important points to Kerkyra as Asteras Tripolis continues there disappointing start to the season.
Both teams got off to a positive start in the match, but it was Kerkyra who found the opener with Thuram. The Brazilian had two previous chances on goal, and on his third opportunity gave Kerkyra the 1-0 lead in the 16th minute. After falling behind, Asteras looked for the equalizer however their lackluster defending made their task very difficult as Thuram scored his second goal of the game in the 28th minute to double Kerkyra’s advantage.
In the second half, Kerkyra held onto the ball and comfortably kept their two goal lead while Asteras only threatened on two occasions with Fernandes and Nikic. As the match went on, Asteras began to dominate the midfield, but did not pose a threat to the opposing goal. With Kerkyra in control of the score, the pace of the game fell and the final chance fell to Thuram, however the Brazilian wasted his opportunity to record a hat-trick.
Today’s win is Kerkyra’s second of the season as they now sit on 6 points. Asteras Tripolis, who recorded their victory last week, remain on three points after yet another disappointing result. Next weekend, Asteras hosts Levadiakos in Tripoli while Kerkyra travel to play Xanthi.
