-- Another PAOK Win With Many Wasted Chances --
GREEK SOCCER CUP - GROUP STAGE (GROUP A)
|PAOK||2 - 0||Larissa|
PAOK got off to a good start in Group A of the Greek Cup by defeating Larissa 2-0 in Thessaloniki. Despite the comfortable win, the hosts once again wasted many opportunities on goal (20 shots), adding to their goal scoring problems this season.
Vladan Ivic made many changes to PAOK’s starting lineup for their Cup fixture at home to Larissa. PAOK dominated the opening 20 minutes creating numerous chances for a breakthrough, but Kavousakis stood his ground denying the hosts with many great saves. Larissa’ goalkeeper kept out the efforts of Mystakidis (13’), Crespo (17’), Pereyra (18’), and Koulouris (19’, 24’) before a string of deflections set up Mystakidis in the penalty area, who finally beat Kavousakis to give PAOK the lead in the 28th minute. The hosts doubled their advantage before the halftime whistle when Biseswar set up Pereyra whose strike was well placed, leaving no chance for Kavousakis. In the second half, PAOK comfortably held onto their lead as Larissa failed to threaten the hosts and PAOK came away with a 2-0 victory to start off their Greek Cup campaign.
PAOK will be happy with all three points, but will be troubled in the fact that the they wasted many chances on goal for yet another game. Over the weekend in their derby matchup against Olympiacos, many blown opportunities on goal were punished by a late winner from Milivojevic, handing PAOK their first defeat of the Superleague season. In Group A of the Greek Cup, PAOK sit on three points while Larissa have zero points. Trikala and Panelefsiniakos will face off tomorrow in Group A’s other fixture for matchday 1.
