GREEK SUPERLEAGUE - MATCHDAY 9

Larissa 2 - 0 Panionios
Varela (p) 10'
Nazlidis 82'

In a match where both teams were left with 10-men in the opening 22 minutes, Larissa defeated Panionios 2-0 at the AEL FC Arena. Two goals on opposite ends of the 90 minutes from Varela (10’) and Nazlidis (82’) were enough for Larissa to earn their second win of the season.

Both Larissa and Panionios were looking for all 3 points for different reasons in today’s fixture at the AEL FC Arena. The game was essentially played with only 20-men on the pitch as Hurtado and Fountas were sent off in the 23rd minute. The opening goal came in the 10th minute for the hosts when Varela won the penalty and took the initiative to convert from the spot, giving Larissa the 1-0 lead. Panionios pressed for an equalizer in the second half, but it was Nazlidis who put the game to bed with his free-kick finding the back of the net in the 82nd minute. Both teams hit the woodwork with Avraam in the 27th minute and Risvanis in the 87th minute and Panionios finished the game with 14 shots compared to Larissa’s 4 shots.

Larissa’s win is their second of the season moving them up to 8 points as Panionios sit on 10 points. Next weekend the Kyanerythri will have a tough fixture at home to PAOK as Larissa travels to Agrinio to play Panetolikos.
