-- Siopis and Koutroubis Get Their First Call Up --
Manolis Siopis and Giorgios Koutroubis have been called up to the Greek National Team for the first time in their careers. Michael Skibbe’s decision comes after more injuries problems arose in the Galanolefki as they prepare for their crucial qualifier on Sunday against Bosnia.
Panagiotis Tachtsidis returned to Italy after suffering an injury in Greece’s friendly against Belarus on Wednesday, ruling him out of Sunday’s match against Bosnia. In addition, injury problems, aches, or other small issues have been seen in Maniatis, Petsos, Bakasetas, Tzavellas, and Papastathopoulos. Kostas Manolas was not called up this go around after going under nose surgery last week, while Stefanos Kapino (injured with Olympiacos) was replaced by Dimitris Kyriakidis. This forced Skibbe to make additional call-ups to the National Team, giving the honors to Manolis Siopis of Panionios and Giorgos Koutroubis of Panathinaikos.
It is the first call up to the Men’s National Team for either player while Siopis recently “retired” from the Greek U-21 National Team. Michael Skibbe has traveled and attended many matches in this year’s Superleague and the good form of both players grabbed the attention of Greece’s head coach. The two have joined the rest of the squad as they prepare for Sunday’s qualifier against Bosnia.
