Panathinaikos came up short against Real Madrid, falling 87-84 in a thrilling match in Spain for the 7th round of the Euroleague Regular Season. Two late mistakes from Feldeine along with a record-breaking night from Llull (30-points) handed Panathinaikos their 3rd loss of the season. The Prasini also lost Gist for Friday’s Euroleague clash against Olympiacos as he left the court with what looks to be a serious injury.

It was a thrilling game in Spain between two “European giants” as Real Madrid hosted Panathinaikos. The game lived up to its title with both teams exchanging the lead throughout the match. With just over a minute remaining, Real Madrid was ahead 84-81, when Panathinaikos’ best player of the night, James Feldeine, tied the game from behind the arch. Real Madrid’s Sergio Llull, who had a career-high 30-points, lobbed an impressive shot, putting his team ahead by 2-points. Unfortunately, two mistakes from Feldeine in the final minute allowed Real Madrid to hold onto their lead and come away with a narrow 87-84 victory.

Despite the two mistakes at the end, Feldeine was Panathinaikos’ best player with 19-points (6/7 from behind the arch) while Calathes added 15-points and 9-assists. Singleton and Bourousis eached scored 13-points for the Trifylli. James Gist left the match with a serious injury and will likely miss many of Panathinaikos upcoming games (will know tomorrow after the medical tests). Sergio Llull was named the MVP of Round 7 with his career-high 30-points for Real Madrid.

Panathinaikos is now 4-3 for the season while Real Madrid move up to 5-2 after 7-games. On Friday, Panathinaikos will host their big rivals Olympiacos for Round 8 of the Euroleague Regular Season.
