Aris hosted Panathinaikos at the Nick Galis Hall in the Greek Basket League Round 7 derby. After a close first quarter, Panathinaikos pulled away in the second quarter, taking an 8-point lead into halftime. After the restart, the visitors continued their success from behind the arch (finished 10/24) and increased their lead to as many as 15-points (32-47). However, Panathinaikos “blacked-out” on the offensive and Aris got back in the game, cutting the Trifylli’s lead to 1-point (50-51) early in the fourth quarter. A strong Panathinaikos defense, led by Bourousis and Singleton, re-gave the visitors a comfortable lead as they went on to win 59-71.
Singleton, who celebrated a birthday today, was the leading scorer for Panathinaikos with 16-points while recording 2-assists and 4-steals. Bourousis struggled offensively (although he put up 12-points), but dominated the boards with 13-rebounds and helped Panathinaikos come away with the victory in the fourth quarter. Rivers scored an important (and decisive) 3-pointer with over 5-minutes remaining to give Panathinaikos an 8-point lead (50-58) as he finished the game with 13-points and 9-assis.
With the win, Panathinaikos moves to 6-1 in the Greek Basket League and trail both Olympiacos and AEK who are undefeated after 7 games. As for Aris, they move below 0.500 with a 3-4 record.
