-- Olympiacos Through...In Cyprus for First Place --
UEFA EUROPA LEAGUE - GROUP B (MATCHDAY 5)
|Olympiacos||1 - 1||Young Boys|
|Fortounis 48'||Hoarau 58'|
Olympiacos played to a 1-1 draw with Young Boys and secured their place in the next round of the UEFA Europa League. Fortounis opened the scoring with a fantastic free-kick and Hoarau equalized 10-minutes later. Olympiacos and APOEL will fight for top spot in Group B in the final matchday of group play.
Olympiacos wasted the opening half and only created one chance with Botia’s header from Fortounis’ corner. The Erythrolefki were a completely different team in the second half and three minutes after the restart, Fortounis found the breakthrough with a tremendous free-kick. However, Hoarau equalized 10-minutes later for Young Boys, bringing his side back in the game. Olympiacos was the better side on the pitch, but with the scores level, a goal for Young Boys would turn the complexion of the group. The Swiss side did not create a classical chance to pull ahead while on the other end, Olympiacos could not find a winner after wasting multiple opportunities on goal (including Elyounoussi 2-meters in front of an open goal). The 1-1 result remained at the final whistle and Olympiacos secured their place in the Round of 32 of the Europa League.
Olympiacos and APOEL will advance from group B and the two sides will battle it out in Cyprus for first place in the group on the final Matchday. A draw or win will do for APOEL while only a win for the Greek Champions will give them top spot in the group.
