Olympiacos had a horrendous night shooting from the field as they fell 73-80 at home to Maccabi Tel-Aviv in Round 9 of the Euroleague. Olympiacos moved to 5-4 record after today’s loss.
Olympiacos fell behind early in the game (as many as 10-points in the 1st quarter) and the deficit continued to increase as the game progressed. Maccabi took a 7-point lead into halftime, which grew to 16-points by the end of the third quarter, giving them complete control of the match. The visitors comfortably held a commanding double-digit lead well into the fourth quarter, before Olympiacos pulled within 6-points, but the comeback was not meant to be. Maccabi Tel-Aviv earned a 73-80 victory at the Stadio Eirinis kai Filias and moved up to 5-4 for the season, along with Olympiacos.
It was horrendous shooting night for the Erythrolefki as they went 6/33 from behind the arch and 20/37 from 2-point range. On the other end, the defense looked weak as Maccabi increased their lead by as many as 18-points in the 3rd quarter. Lojeski led Olympiacos with 15-points and Spanoulis followed with 14-points, despite going 0/6 from 3-point range.
This is Olympiacos’ second loss at home this season and they essentially “threw away” their big victory at the OAKA Stadium against Panathinaikos in Round 8. Both Maccabi Tel-Aviv and Olympiacos sit with a 5-4 record after 9 games in this year’s Euroleague.
