-- Karelis Sends Genk to the Knockout Stages --
Nikos Karelis’ goal gave Genk the 1-0 win over Rapid Vienna, securing his side’s place in the next round of the UEFA Europa League.
Genk hosted Rapid Vienna in a crucial fixture for Group F knowing that a win for the hosts would secure their place in the next round of the competition. The home fans did not have to wait long for the opener as Karelis found the back of the net in the 11th minute of play. The Greek striker scored one of the easiest goals of his career, finding himself at the right place at the right time to tap in a rebounded effort in front of an open net. The goal proved to be decisive as Genk went on to win the match 1-0 and progress to the knockout stages of the competition.
This is Karelis’ second goal in this year’s Europa League and his 14th in all competitions.
