-- AEK & Anestis Throw Away Two Points... --
GREEK SUPERLEAGUE - MATCHDAY 10
|AEK||2 - 2||Atromitos|
|Le Tallec 71'
Another “Gela” for AEK...The Kitronomavri had a commanding 2-0 lead against Atromitos before giving up two goals in the final 20 minutes as the match ended in a 2-2 draw. Mantalos gave AEK the early lead and Rodriguez doubled the hosts’ advantage in the 60th minute. Le Tallec cut the the Enosi’s lead in the 71st minute and a horrendous mistake from Anestis led to Umbides’ equalizer 4 minutes later. AEK remains winless for a third straight game while only recording one win in their last 5 outings.
AEK came into today’s home fixture having failed to find the back of the net in their previous two outings at the OAKA Stadium. Petros Mantalos quickly changed things for his side as he took advantage of a bad pass in the backline and his shot deflected into Gorbunov’s net. The goal took the pressure off of the Kitrinomavri as they played with confidence and with the exception of one late chance for Atromitos, comfortably kept their 1-0 lead at the break.
AEK did not seem content with their one goal advantage and entered the second half looking to double their lead. In the 60th minute, Patito did just that with a well-placed, right-footed strike that left no chance for Gorbunov, giving AEK the 2-0 lead. With the two goal advantage it looked as if AEK had secured all three points, but Atromitos had other plans. Le Tallec pulled one back for Atromitos in the 70th minute and 5 minutes later, a horrendous mistake from Anestis brought Atromitos level. Umbides’ inaccurate cross was a routine catch for Anestis, but the Greek goalkeeper made a mess of the play and the ball ended in the back of his net. In the final 15 minutes, both teams had clear chances to score a late goal, but neither team had luck on their side to find a winner (Almeida scored in the 89th minutes but was rightfully called back for offsides).
It is AEK’s third consecutive game at home without a win and the fans showed their frustration at the end of the match. The draw puts AEK on 12 points, keeping them 6 points behind the league leaders Olympiacos. Atromitos continues their good spell of results under Georgios Korakakis and moves up to 11 points. AEK’s schedule does not get any easier after the international break as they travel to the Apostolos Nikolaidis Stadium to play Panathinaikos while Atromitos hosts a good Panionios team.
