-- Asteras and Veria Settle for Goalless Draw --
GREEK SUPERLEAGUE - MATCHDAY 14
|Asteras Tripolis||0 - 0||Veria|
After mediocre game in Tripolis, Asteras and Veria settled to a goalless draw. The result keeps both teams near the bottom of the table.
In a match where both Asteras Tripolis and Veria needed a win to move “away” from the bottom of the Superleague standings, the fixture in Tripolis had no winner. Tripolis had more shots on goal, however the better chances fell to the visitors.
Veria did manage to find the back of the net in the 16th minute, but Sarpong’s goal was rightfully called back for offsides. The visitors threatened again with Viti at the half-hour mark, but Donnarumma denied the Veria player. Asteras did manage to register more shots in the first half without creating a notable chance.
The Arkades were the better side in the second half and created two good chances (after Mazza was subbed on) in the 64th and 69th minutes, but Lopez kept the hosts off the score sheet. In the final five minutes Veria came close to stealing all three points. Toni Calvo got on the end of a powerful shot, that was well saved by Donnarumma, and a minute later Vitti’s effort just missed the target. The two teams were left disappointed at the final whistle as neither team was able to come away with the victory.
Asteras is now winless in three games while Veria has recorded three losses and five draws since there big win in Nea Smyrni against Panionios. The draw keeps Asteras in 15th place and Veria in 13th place after eleven games. Next weekend, Asteras will travel to play bottom of the table Iraklis in a crucial six pointer as Veria hosts an in-form Xanthi side.
