-- Clesio Leads Panetolikos to Victory --
GREEK SUPERLEAGUE - MATCHDAY 14
|Panetolikos||2 - 0||Iraklis|
With Clesio Bauque on a great night, Panetolikos defeated Iraklis 2-0 for the 14th matchday of the Greek Superleague. The Mozambican scored the opening goal, set up the second (scored by Markovski), and was denied by the woodwork in the final play of the game.
After failing to earn a victory against Veria and Xanthi, Panetolikos recorded their first three points in three games after defeating Iraklis 2-0. The opening goal came in the 19th minute with Clesio, who was too quick for the Iraklis defense and his great finish gave Panetolikos the 1-0 lead. Panetolikos came close to their second in the 35th minute, but Kousas header from Ferreira’s free-kick hit the post and stayed out. Iraklis failed to convert two good chances late in the first half when Pasas’ shot was stopped by Kyriakidis and minutes later, Perrone’s header hit the crossbar and went out.
In the second half, both teams created minimal chances mainly through set plays, and Panetolikos sealed their victory in the 85th minute. Clesio’s pace once again made the difference as he stormed down the right side and set up Markovski who tapped the ball into the net, giving the Kanarinia the 2-0 lead. The final chance of the game fell to the man of the match, Clesio, but his shot was denied by the post.
The win moves Panetolikos up to 15 points, tied with Panionios, while Iraklis remain bottom of the table with 6 points. Next weekend, Panetolikos will travel to Pireaus to face Olympiacos as Iraklis host Asteras Tripolis in a crucial relegation six pointer.
