After three straight defeats in the Greek Superleague, PAOK came away with a 3-0 victory in today’s fixture against Platanias. All three goals for the Dikefalos tou Vora were scored in the second half, with Leo Matos scoring in the 61st and 81st minutes before Yaya Banana put the ball into his own net three minutes from time.
After an even opening 20 minutes between the two sides, PAOK began to increase their pressure in Platanias’ half and created two good chances to open the score. However, both Campos’ and Koulouris’ shots from a good position did not find the target as the teams went into the break goalless.
In the 61st minute, Leo Matos provided the breakthrough for the Dikefalos tou Vora. Rodrigues’ in-swinging free-kick was flicked on by Leo Matos, leaving no chance for Sotiriou and PAOK took the 1-0 lead. After the goal, the game opened up for PAOK and the hosts had chances to double their lead, which came in the 81st minute. A great counterattack left Leo Matos in an easy position to score his second goal of the night, giving PAOK a two goal advantage. Another counterattack led to PAOK’s third and final goal when Rodrigues’ cross was turned in by Yaya for an own goal.
Today’s victory is PAOK’s first after three consecutive loses in the Superleague. They move up to 14-points in the standings while Platanias remains on 11 points. Next weekend, PAOK will travel to Kerkyra as Platanias hosts Atromitos.
