-- GREAT END TO 2016 FOR PLATANIAS--
GREEK SUPERLEAGUE - MATCHDAY 15
|Platanias||3 - 0||Atromitos|
Giakoumakis 70', 84'
Platanias added an important three points to their tally after a big 3-0 victory over Atromitos. All three goals came in the final 22 minutes as Karypidis opened the scoring (controversial goal) before Giakoumakis’ two goals.
After an exciting opening five minutes, where both teams missed a chance to score the first goal, neither side posed a threat in an overall poor first half. Mendrinos was subbed off in the 22nd minute due to an injury while Atromitos seemed lost without their two big threats, Umbides and Le Tallec.
In the second half, Platanias made it clear that they wanted the three points, playing with more passion and thirst for a result in comparison to their opponents. The breakthrough came in the 68th minute when Karypidis’ lobbed header (from a corner) was controversially ruled in as the replay does not clearly show if the ball actually crossed the line. Despite the unclear call, Platanias took the lead and they had the momentum. It only took two minutes for the Cretan side to double their lead when the Atromitos defense provided the assist to Giakoumakis, who made it 2-0. The same player added a third for the hosts in the 84th minute as they went on to celebrate a big 3-0 victory over Atromitos.
Today's win is Platanias first in nine games in the SuperLeague. Atromitos, who have been one of the SuperLeague’s best teams this season, were handed their second consecutive defeat in league play.
