GREEK SUPERLEAGUE - MATCHDAY 15

Iraklis 1 - 1 Asteras Tripolis
Kyriakidis 76' Bertos 89'

Iraklis had a golden opportunity to earn an important victory in their fight to avoid relegation, however Bertos’ goal in the final minute along with Donnarumma’s great double-save in stoppage time gave the two teams a point from today’s match. Neither side will benefit from the 1-1 draw as both teams have struggled in the first half of the season.

Iraklis hosted Asteras Tripolis in a crucial six pointer as both teams have struggled this season. Despite, their low placement in the standings the two teams put on an entertaining match in Thessaloniki. The first half saw both clubs create good opportunities on goal with neither side able to find the opener.

Iraklis sent a warning in the 74th minute with Leozinho’s brilliant effort from outside the penalty area hitting the crossbar and stayed out. Great team play from the hosts produced the opener in the 78th minute with Perrone (from an offside position) providing the assist to Kyriakidis, who dribbled past Donnarumma to give Iraklis the 1-0 lead.

Iraklis was closing in on their second victory of the season however in the 89th minute, Asteras Tripolis found the equalizer when Ziaparis’ deflected clearance hit Bertos’ knee (on the hand first) and went into the net, making the score 1-1. The hosts came extremely close to a late winner, but Donnarumma made two great saves in the final play of the game to hold onto a point for his side.

The point does not benefit either side as they both look to avoid the drop this season. Iraklis remain at the bottom of the standings with 7 points while Asteras sit fourth from bottom with only 12 points from 12 games.
