-- Real Madrid Eying Papastathopoulos --
Sokratis Papastathopoulos has caught the eye of Spanish giants, Real Madrid. According to the German newspaper “Bild”, Sokratis is one of Zidane’s options to replace Pepe in the center back position.
One of Europe’s best defenders, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, could be making a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid. The Greek defender has caught the attention of Real Madrid as they look for Pepe’s replacement if he decides to leave the club in the summer. The Merengues faced Sokratis and Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League group stage, where Sokratis produced two impressive performances as his side claimed first place in the group. According to the same source, Real Madrid have sent a scout to Borussia Dortmund’s recent fixtures against Eintracht Frankfurt and Borussia Monchengladbach to get a better sense of the player’s abilities.
Real Madrid have been placed on a “transfer ban” from FIFA until 2018, but have appealed the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (C.A.S) to get that punishment reduced. If the defending Champions League champions win the appeal, they will likely be able to make signings during the 2017 summer transfer window.
However, if Real Madrid want to make a move for Papastathopoulos they will need to reach deep in their pockets. According to “Live Sport,” Borussia Dortmund values Sokratis at €60 Million! If Real Madrid or any top side in Spain (Barcelona or Atletico Madrid) make an offer for the Greek defender, he will inch closer to his dream to play in the Primera Division.
