Nikos Karelis scored Genk’s second goal in their 2-0 derby win over Gent in the Belgian Jupiler League. Karelis’ ninth goal of the season came from the penalty spot in the 26th minute. The Greek striker was subbed off at the beginning of the second half due to an injury that is thought to be a serious one.
Nikos Karelis continued his goal scoring run in Belgium, finding the back of the net for the 9th time in league play and 18th time this season in all competitions (7-Belgian Cup, 2-Europa League). Karelis gave Genk a 2-0 lead over Gent in the 25th minute when he calmly scored from the penalty spot. Genk went on to win the derby 2-0 as they sit 7th in the Jupiler League standings.
Unfortunately, early on in the second half the Greek striker was subbed off due to an injury on his knee. He was quickly taken to the hospital for medical tests with the severity of the injury not yet know. However, the initial outlook is not promising something which will worry not only the people at Genk, but also coach Michael Skibbe and the Greek National Team.
