-- PANIONIOS DROPS POINTS IN CHANIA --
GREEK SUPERLEAGUE - MATCHDAY 13
|Platanias||1 - 1||Panionios|
|Manousos 80'||Nabouhane 27'|
Panionios was the better side in their fixture away to Platanias, but a late goal from the hosts was enough for the match to end in a 1-1 draw. Nabouhane opened the scoring before Manousos equalized with 10 minutes remaining. Panionios played the final 25 minutes with 10 men after Vlachos was sent off with a second yellow card.
Panionios had the opportunity to walk away with an easy 3-points in Chania against Platanias, but the Cretan club was able to steal a point from today’s fixture. The visitors had complete control of the match and in the 27th minute, Ben opened the scoring with a well-placed free-kick from just outside the penalty area. The Kyanerythri had multiple chances to score a second and put the game away (mainly through Fountas), but were unable to do so.
The key turning point of the match came in the 65th minute when Vlachos was finally sent off (he was warned on multiple occasions by the referee) after receiving a second yellow card. Platanias used the man advantage to balance out the game and began to pin Panionios in their own half.
The equalizer came in the 80th minute after a great team build up left Manousos with an easy tap in front of goal. The same player had a tremendous opportunity in the second minute of stoppage time for the winner, but Gianniotis denied him from close range.
Panionios will be disappointed with today's results as they continue to fight for a playoff spot. Platanias’ goal scoring problems persist while sitting in the bottom half of the standings. Next weekend, Panionios will host Kerkyra and Platanias will travel to Thessaloniki to play PAOK.
