-- ANOTHER BLOWN LEAD FOR AEK... --
GREEK SUPERLEAGUE - MATCHDAY 13
|Kerkyra||1 - 1||AEK|
|Thuram 74'||Lamropoulos 14'|
For yet another game this season, AEK was cruising to victory but in the end, could not come away with the 3-points. An early goal from Lambropoulos gave AEK the 0-1 lead against Kerkyra, however the hosts equalized with their only chance of the game as the fixture ended in a 1-1 draw.
AEK failed to learn from their previous two matches where they gave up leads against Atromitos and Anagennisi Karditsa (Greek Cup), as it was a similar story against Kerkyra in today’s fixture. AEK took the early on when Mantalos’ corner was flicked into the back of the net from Lambropoulos’ header. After the goal, AEK kept up their pressure in hopes of doubling their lead and came close on multiple occasions. On two instances, Koutsovasilis made great saves to keep his side in the game; first denying Aravidis’ shot from inside the penalty area (pushed onto the post) and later keeping out Mantalos’ spectacular volley.
The Kitrinomavri had complete control of the match as Kerkyra posed no threat to the visitors. However, one lapse from the AEK defense was enough for Kerkyra to pull level. Spinoulas’ cross found Thurman at the top of the penalty area and the Brazilian made no mistake to bring his side level in the 74th minute. In the final quarter hour, AEK failed to create a chance that would produce a winner and the Enosis dropped points for yet another game in this year's title race.
The point moves AEK to third in the standings (16 points), one ahead of Panathinaikos (plays tomorrow against PAOK) and six points behind the league leaders Olympiacos (plays Levadiakos tomorrow). Kerkyra will celebrate another hard-fought result against a tough opponent after last week’s draw away to Olympiacos. Kerkyra have 12 points from 10 games and sit six points clear of the relegation zone.
Next weekend, AEK will host Levadiakos while Kerkyra travel to play an in-form Panionios side.
