With Agamez (former Panathinaikos player) putting on his best showing as an Olympiacos player, the Erythrolefki defeated their big rivals, Panathinaikos, 3-1 set in the Greek Volley League Matchday 7 derby. The win keeps Olympiacos undefeated this season while putting them 5 points clear of Panathinaikos in the league standings.
The eternal rivals, Olympiacos and Panathinaikos, met in a highly anticipated Volley League derby, being that it was the first time since 2010 that the two teams met while both sitting in the top three of the league standings. Additionally, Liberman Agamez faced his former club, Panathinaikos, after a five-year stay with the Athenian side where he won one league title and three Greek cups.
A strong start for Olympiacos was enough to hold off a late push from Panathinaikos in the first set as the hosts went on to take a 1-0 lead, winning the set 25-22. The Prasini took advantage of Olympiacos’ poor defending in the second set, going on to win 19-25 and tying the match at 1-1. Agamez came through at critical points in the third set to give Olympiacos the 2-1 lead (25-23 set) and the Colombian once again led his side in the fourth set to hand Olympiacos the 25-23 set victory and 3-1 match win.
The win keeps Olympiacos undefeated for the season with a comfortable 5-point lead over their rivals in the Volley League Standings. Panathinaikos, who defeated the defending champions PAOK earlier in the season, have shown that they will be a heavy contender for this year’s Greek Volley League Title.
