Croatia 2 - 1 Spain
Kalinic 45'
Perisic 87'
Morata 7'

The top two teams faced off in the final matchday of Group D. The leaders, Spain, got off to a great start and Morata opened the score in the 7th minute. Croatia was able to create opportunities through clumsy plays by the Spanish backline and came close to an equalizer, but the woodwork denied Rakitic. The leveler came right before the halftime whistle when Kalinic tapped in Perisic’s cross and the teams went into the break tied 1-1. Spain was wrongfully awarded a penalty in the 60th minute, but Subasic denied Ramos from the spot, keeping Croatia in the game. With only minutes remaining, Perisic punished the Spanish with a late counter-attack goal, giving Croatia the 2-1 victory. The win gave Croatia top spot in Group D and they will play the 3rd placed team from Group B, E, or F in the knockout stages. Spain’s loss could prove to be costly as they will now have to face a tough Italy side in the Last 16.
