- Panathinaikos Completes First Signing with Ivanov -
Panathinaikos announced their first three signing of the the 2016 summer transfer window. Ivan Ivanov, former Bulgarian player of the year, has signed a 3-year deal with the Prasini. Additionally, Kalstas and Lagos transferred out while Donis will play on loan to PAS Giannina next season.
The Bulgarian central defender, Ivanov, was announced on Tuesday by Panathinaikos and signed a 3-year deal with the club. Although the two sides came to an agreement at the end of last week, Ivanov’s medical tests were a barrier to the completion of the signing.
Ivanov suffered a major injury in January 2014 while playing with Basel in a friendly match. The injury and subsequently the re-occurrence of the same injury, kept the Bulgarian off the pitch for two years. After positive results from his tests, he signed his new deal with Panathinaikos. Last season, he played in Bulgaria with Lokomotiv Plovdiv and had 9 appearances. He has also played for the Bulgarian National Team, registering 40 caps, and was named Bulgaria’s player of the year in 2013.
Also, Kaltsas and Lagos will not wear the Green jersey next year as they were sold to Asteras Tripolis and Würzburger Kickers (German 2. Bundesliga), respectively. Christos Donis was loaned out to PAS Giannina for the 2016-2017 season.
