- Cambiasso Stays at Olympiacos -
Olympiacos announced the renewal of Esteban Cambiasso’s contract where the Argentinian star signed a 1-year deal. Cambiasso was on the way out from Olympiacos, but the recent managerial change will keep the midfielder in Piraeus.
Cambiasso wanted to remain with Olympiacos since Victor Sanchez took over for Marco Silva. Silva told Cambiasso that he is not in the plans for the new season, forcing Cambiasso to find a new team. Once Victor Sanchez was put in charge, Cambiasso discussed the matter with the club and was able to convince the Greek Champions to a 1-year deal. The Argentinian star will take a heavy pay-cut in comparison to last season, but will fulfill his wishes of staying in Greece with Olympiacos.
Cambiasso has been training on his own and will now join the rest of the team in Belgium for pre-season training. According to the “Gavros” newspaper, he will be fit in time for the Champions League 3rd Qualifying round set to begin in two weeks.
With the renewal of Cambiasso’s contract, Olympiacos has many players in the center-midfield position including Maniatis, Milivojevic, Androutsos, Kasami, Bouchalakis, and Zdjelar. Since the agreement, there have been reports in Greece saying Kasami is in talks with Italian clubs for a transfer deal.
