- Samaras Scores after 520 Days! -
Georgios Samaras scored his first goal in 520 days after finding the back of the net for Rayo OKC in the NASL. It is the Greek striker’s first goal with the American club, giving his side the 3-0 victory over the New York Cosmos.
A nice long ball was played by former Panathinaikos player, Derek Boatang, which was controlled by Samaras and with a well-placed right footed shot gave his side the 3-0 lead. It is Samaras’ first goal in 520 days, giving his side the 3-0 victory.
Giorgios Samaras “vanished” after the 2014 FIFA World Cup where he scored the winning penalty against the Ivory Coast, in the final minute of the final group stage match, to send Greece to the Last 16. After the World Cup, the 31-year old signed with West Brom and Al Hilal (Saudi Arabia), but was troubled by many injuries. In March, he made a move to Rayo OKC in the NASL (2nd division, United States) and has been struggling with a back issue. He recently surpassed his injury, making a few appearances with the club.
Although “Sammy” has not played with the National team since the World Cup, he has previously announced that he remains open to helping the team if he gets called up.
