- AEK Signs Patito, Transfers Buonanotte -
AEK announced the signing of Argentinian striker, Patito Rodriguez, to a 2-year contract. Diego Buonanotte will continue his career in Chile with Universidad Catolica while Ablaya Faye was released from the club.
Patitio arrived in Athens on Tuesday night and signed a 2-year contract today with AEK. The 26-year old left winger/forward began his career with Independiente, registering 114 appearances and 10 goals from 2008-2012. In 2010, he won the Copa Sudamericana with Independiente. Two years later he moved to Brazil for Santos where he played alongside Barcelona’s star Neymar. For two seasons he was on loan to Estudiantes and Johor scoring 5 goals from 2012-2016.
After completing his deal with AEK, Patito announced “I am very happy to make the move to Europe for a big club like AEK. Our first goal is to qualify for the Europa League group stage and from there we can focus on winning the Greek SuperLeague. I want to tell the fans of AEK that I will give my best and more importantly for us to become Greek Champions.”
Diego Buonanotte will not continue his career at AEK after his one year stay at the club. The Argentinian broke his deal with the Kitrinomavri and will play next season in Chile with Universidad Catolica. With AEK, Buonanotte scored 9 goals in 27 appearances completing an overall “average season.”
Finally, Ablaye Faye was released from the club after playing 2 years at AEK. He was on loan to Trikala during the second half of the 2015-2016 season.
