AGONAsport.com brings you a preview of all of Greece’s Athletes competing in Day 7 (Friday, August 12) of the Rio 2016 Summer Olympic Games. For an in-depth preview of all of Greece’s athletes click here. **All time are listed in EST (New York) which is 7 hours behind the local Greek time. All CAPITALIZED sports are considered Final or Medal Rounds.
TODAY'S COMPETING GREEK ATHLETES
Shooting – Men's skeet, Qualifications Day 1 (8:30 AM): Efthimios Mitas
***Mitas will begin in the first day of qualifying for hopes of progressing in the next round.
Track & Field – Women’s Heptathlon, Multiple Events (8:35 AM-9:05 PM): Sofia Yfantidou
***The women's Heptathlon begins with Sofia Yfantidou representing Greece. There will be four events today including the 100M Hurdles, High Jump, Shot Put, and 200 M Dash.
Rowing – Men’s Coxless Four, Final B (8:40 AM): Greece
***Greece's Men's Coxless Four team will play in the B Final for their final placement between 7th and 12th place after their elimination in the semi-finals on Thursday.
TRACK & FIELD– Women's 10000m, FINAL (10:10 AM): Alexi Pappas
***Alexi will compete in the only race for the Women's 10000m run. She will compete with many other athletes for a possible medal in the event.
Swimming – Women’s 50m Freestyle, Heat 9 (12:26 PM): Theodora Drakou
***Drakou will compete in Heat 9 of the Women's 50m Freestyle with hopes of an overall Top 16 finish to qualify for the semi-finals. If she progresses she will swim in the semi-finals at 9:59 PM later in the day.
Sailing – Men’s RSX, Preliminary Races 10-12 (12:05-2:05 PM): Byron Kokkalanis
***The preliminary races will conclude today with the final 3 races. Kokkalanis is currently in 4th place and will need to finish in the top 8 to qualify for the medal races.
Sailing – Men’s 470, Preliminary Races 5-6 (12:05-1:30 PM): Kagialis & Maniatis
***Kagialias & Maniatis will continue with 2 races in the preliminary round as they currently sit in 3rd place.
Sailing – Women's RSX, Preliminary Races 10-12 (12:15-2:15 PM): Angeliki Skarlatou
***The preliminary races will conclude today with the final 3 races. Skarlatou is currently in 18th place and will need to finish in the top 8 to qualify for the medal races which will be a difficult task for the Greek Athlete.
TRACK & FIELD– Men's 20km Walk, FINAL (1:30 PM): Alexandros Papamichail
***Papamichail will compete in the single race event for the Men's 20km run. He will compete with many other athletes for a possible medal in the event.
Water Polo - Men's Tournament, Group Stage (6:30 PM): Greece
***Greece plays a crucial match against the hosts, Brazil, in Group A of the Men's Water Polo Tournament. Brazil currently sit in 1st place in the group and Greece is in 2nd. A win will give Greece the clear advantage to top the group, a draw will keep them alive to qualify for the next round, while a loss could put the team in a very tough position to advance from the group.
Track & Field– Men's Long Jump, Qualifying (8:20 PM): Michalis Tentoglou
***Tentoglou will compete in the qualifying round of the Men's long Jump with hopes for a place in the final For automatic qualification he will need a jump of 6.75 meters.
*Please note that Heats are considered qualifying rounds while FINAL rounds are the “medal” rounds.
