AGONAsport.com brings you a preview of all of Greece’s Athletes competing in Day 8 (Saturday, August 13) of the Rio 2016 Summer Olympic Games. All CAPITALIZED sports are considered Final or Medal Rounds.
TODAY'S COMPETING GREEK ATHLETES
Shooting – Men's Skeet, Qualifications Day 2 (8:30 AM): Efthimios Mitas
***Mitas will continue in the second day of qualifying in the Men's Skeet Event. He is currently in 22nd and will need a top 6 finish to advance to the semi-finals. If he pulls off the surprise to qualify, he will compete in the semi-finals at 2:00 PM. The final and 3rd place match will be played right after.
Track & Field – Women’s Triple Jump, Qualifying(8:40 AM): Paraskevi Papachristou
***Papachristou will be in Group A of the Women's Triple Jump Qualifying Round. She will be one of the favorites to advance to the final. She will qualify with a top 12 finish or a jump of 14.30 meters.
Track & Field – Women’s 400 m, Heat 6 (10:35 AM): Irini Vasiliou
***Vasiliou will compete in Heat 6 of the Women's 400 m dash. She will need a top 2 finish to automatically qualify for the semi-finals or the 8th best time among all the other runners.
Track & Field– Women's Heptathlon, Final events (10:45 AM-9:50 PM): Sofia Yfantidou
***Yfantidou will compete in the final 3 events of the Women's Heptathlon, including the Long Jump, Javelin Throw, and 800 m run. She currently is in 25th place and will hope for the best possible finish.
Sailing – Mixed-Narca 17, Preliminary Races 7-9 (12:05-2:05 PM): Bekatorou & Petaniotis
***The Greek duo are currently in 14th place and will need to creep into the top 10 for a place in the final round. Three of the final 6 preliminary races will be completed today.
Sailing – Men’s Finn, Preliminary Races 7-8 (12:05-1:30 PM): Ioannis Mitakis
***Mitakis is currently in 8th place which will lead him to a place in the Final round (top 10). There are four races remaining with the 7th and 8th race today.
Track & Field– Men's Pole Vault, Qualifying (7:20 PM): Kostas Filipidis
***Filipidis makes his debut at the Rio 2016 Games in the Men's Pole Vault Qualifying Round. He will be one of the favorites to advance to Sunday's final round. A jump of 5.75 meters will give him automatic qualification while a top 12 finish will also suffice for a place in the final.
*Please note that Heats are considered qualifying rounds while FINAL rounds are the “medal” rounds.
