All CAPITALIZED sports are considered Final or Medal Rounds.
TODAY'S COMPETING GREEK ATHLETES
SWIMMING – Men's 10km Marathon, FINAL (8:00 AM): Spyros Gianniotis
***Spyros Gianniotis will compete in the Men's 10km Open Water Swimming event with high hopes for a medal. The Greek athlete will be a main contender for a top 3 finish. In London 2012 he missed the bronze medal by only 5 seconds and is determined to reach the podium in Rio
Track & Field – Women's Pole Vault, Qualifying A (8:45 AM): Katerina Stefanidis
***The current European Champion will make her debut in Rio for the Qualifying round of the Women's Pole Vault event. A jump over 4.60 meters or a top 12 finish will be enough to qualify for the final. if all goes well, Stefanidis will secure her place in Wednesday's final
CYCLING – Men's Keirin, Full Event (9:18 AM-5:20 PM): Christos Volikakis
***Volikakis will begin in Heat 1 of the Men's Keirin event with hopes of progressing to Round 2. Round 2 will be held at 3:46 while the finals will be held at 5:20.
Track & Field – Women’s 100m Hurdles, Heat 3 (10:19 AM): Elisavet Peseridou
***Peseridou will hope for a place in the competition's semi-finals with a good run in Heat 3 of the qualifying round. The top two athletes from each heat will advance to the Semi-finals along with the 12 other best times.
Track & Field – Men's 200m, Heat 1 (10:50 AM): Lykourgos Tsakonas
***Tsakonas will hope for a place in the competition's semi-finals with a good run in Heat 1 of the qualifying round. The top two athletes from each heat will advance to the Semi-finals along with the 4 other best times. Tsakonas is more than capable of advancing to the next round.
Sailing – Men’s 470, Preliminary Races 8-10 (12:05-2:55 PM): Kagialis & Maniatis
***Kagialias & Maniatis are currently in 3rd place going into today's final 3 races of the preliminary round. They will look to stay in 3rd place before the medal race.
Synchronized Swimming – Women’s Duet, Final (1:00 PM): Papazoglou & Platanioti
***The Greek duo finished in 10th place in the preliminary round and will look for a good placement in today's final round. The score from the preliminary round's technical routine transfers to the final round as each duet will perform a free routine in the Final round.
Water Polo - Men's Tournament, Quarter-Finals (3:30 PM): Greece - Italy
***Greece plays Italy in the quarter-finals and first knockout game of the Men's Water Polo Tournament. The winner will advance to the semi-finals to play either Serbia or Spain.
Track & Field – Women's Long Jump, Qualifying Group A (8:05 PM): Haido Alexouli
***Alexouli will look for a top 12 finish in the Women's Long Jump qualifying round for a place in the competition's final. Additionally a jump greater than 6.75 meters will give her an automatic place in the final.
Track & Field – Men's 110m Hurdles, Semi-final (7:40 PM): Kostas Douvalidis
***After finishing first in his heat during qualifying (6th overall), Douvalidis will hope for a top 2 finish in his semi-final race of the Men's 110m Hurdles dash for a place in the final.
*Please note that Heats are considered qualifying rounds while FINAL rounds are the “medal” rounds.
