- Lazaros Returns to Greece for AEK -
Greek International Lazaros Christodoulopoulos is the newest addition to AEK's roster. The 29-year old midfielder returns to Greece after playing in Italy since 2013. Lazaros signed a 2+1 year deal with the Kitrinomavri. Joleon Lescott could be AEK's next signing in the coming days.
Lazaros began his professional career in Thessaloniki, with PAOK, where he remained there from 2004-2008 before making a move the Athens for Panathinaikos. In his 4.5 seasons with the Prasini, he had 85 appearances with 15 goals. In January 2013, he signed with Italian club Bologna where he remained until 2014, transferring to Hellas Verona. Last season, he played on loan at Sampdoria only making 10 appearances with one goal.
Additionally, Christodoulopoulos has been a consistent player with the Greek National Team. His debut came in 2008 and since then he has 28 caps and 1 goal with Greece. Lazaros was recently left out of Greece’s roster for the upcoming friendly against Holland and first World Cup qualifier against Gibraltar.
The 29-year old arrived in Greece today and signed his new 2+1 year contract with the Kitrinomavri. He stated "I am very happy the deal was completed, AEK is a very big team with a rich history and I want to help bring them back to where they belong." When he was asked if winning the Greek SuperLeague was his goal he responded "Championship? That's why I came here."
Additionally, AEK is extremely close to completing an impressive signing with English International Joleon Lescott! The 34-year old defender has agreed to everything with AEK and is expected to arrive in Athens to sign a deal with the Kitrinomavri. According to sportfm.gr, Italian club, Pescara, have recently made a late push for the defender, something that worries the people at AEK.
