- AEK Completes BIG Move with Lescott -
AEK has officially announced the biggest signing of the summer in the Greek SuperLeague, English International Joleon Lescott! The 34-year old defender signed a 2-year deal with the Kitrinomavri.
Joleon Lescott agreed to terms with AEK on Friday and was expected to arrive Saturday to sign with the club, however a late push from Italian side Pescara delayed his move to Greece. AEK increased their offer and Lescott arrived at 4:00 AM local time Monday morning. Today, he successfully passed all the medical tests and signed a 2-year deal with the Enosi. After signing his new contract he stated that he is well-aware of AEK’s rich history and that he came here to win titles. He also mentioned that Ketsbaia played a role in his decision as the two were former teammates at Wolverhampton in 2000.
Lescott has an impressive football background, playing most of his career in the English Premier League along with many call-ups to England’s National Team. He made his professional debut as an 18-year old with Wolverhampton where he played from 2000-2006 (212 appearances, 13 goals). He continued in England with Everton until 2009 and registered 113 appearances with 14 goals. In 2009, he made a big move to Manchester City where he won two Premier League Titles (2012, 2014) and one League Cup (2014) in his five seasons with the club (107 appearances, 7 goals). In 2014, he transferred to West Brom and last season he was irreplaceable at Aston Villa, who was relegated to the English Championship (2nd Division). In total, he has made 286 appearances in the English Premier League, scoring 23 goals, and keeping 100 clean-sheets!
The 34-year old defender has played with all of England’s National Teams, registering 26 caps with the Men’s team from 2007-2013. His first and only goal came at Euro 2012 against France.
AEK coach, Timur Ketsbaia, will have arguably the strongest center-back duo in the league with former Barcelona player Dmytro Chygrynskiy and now Joleon Lescott.
This could be the Dikefalos’ last signing of the summer however according to sdna.gr, AEK could make one more move before Wednesday’s transfer deadline. The next signing will be a striker or a defensive midfielder.
