- M'Poku & Coulibaly Join Panathinaikos -
Panathinaikos have completed two signings on the final day of the transfer window with Paul-José M'Poku and Ousmane Coulibaly. Christopher Samba is expected to be announced later in the day and will be Panathinaikos’ final move of the summer.
Paul-José M'Poku has joined Panathinaikos on a 1-year on loan deal from Italian side Chievo Verona. The Congolese International mostly plays on the left or right wing-striker positions, having great technical abilities and explosive speed. The 24-year old was a personal recommendation of Panathinaikos’ coach Andrea Stramaccioni and is valued at €3.5 million on transfermarkt. M'Poku signed his first professional contract with Tottenham in 2009 and two years later signed a 4-year deal with Belgian side Standard Liege (upcoming opponents in the Europa League). In Belgium, he made 121 appearances while scoring 28 goals. In February 2015, he was loaned out to Cagliari (16 appearances, 3 goals) and last season he played on loan at Chievo (20 appearances, 0 goals). Chievo bought the player’s rights last March and decided to loan him out for this upcoming season. Stramaccioni did not let the opportunity go to waste and M'Poku signed a 1-year on loan deal with the Prasini.
M’Poku has played with all of Belgium’s Youth National Teams (61 caps, 19 goals), but decided to play for Congo’s Men’s National Team where he has 5 caps and 3 goals. He was recently called up for Congo’s upcoming qualifiers for the African Cup of Nations.
Panathinaikos also signed Ousmane Coulibaly from Platanias on a 3-year contract. The deal closed at €250,000. The Malian wing-defender has played in Greece (with Platanias) since 2014 , making great appearances in the SuperLeague. In his two seasons in Crete, he played in 52 games while scoring 4 goals. He will be a worthy “backup” option to Mesto.
The Prasini are expected to announce the signing of Christopher Samba by the end of the day. The 32-year old defender will be the final addition of the summer for Panathinaikos.
