- Petrounias Makes His Statement, Disappointment Again for Maras -
Eleftherios Petrounias showed why he is the favorite for the gold medal in the Men’s Rings Event at the Rio 2016 Olympics after finishing his difficult program with a 15.833 score. Vlasios Maras was once again disappointing at another Olympic Games, scoring a 14.200 and will most likely not qualify for the final competition.

The favorite for the gold medal in the Men’s Rings event, Eleftherios Petrounias, will most likely finish first in the Qualifying round (in progress) with a score of a 15.833. He exceptionally performed his program with a difficulty of 6.8. His biggest competitor is the 2012 gold medalist Arthur Zanetti from Brazil, who recorded a score of 15.533 in the qualifying round. Petrounias will compete in the final which will take place on Monday, August 15th, at 1:00 PM (EST).

In his 4th Olympic Games, Vlasios Maras once again came up short in the Men’s Horizontal Bar. The Greek athlete scored a 14.200 in the qualifying and will need a miracle to qualify for the Final Round. At the conclusion of his performance he sat in 16th place, with the top 24 progressing to the final. There are still many athletes to compete in the qualifying round.
