The Greek team is celebrating their first medal at the Rio 2016 Summer Olympic Games. Anna Korakaki won the bronze medal in the Women's Shooting 10m Pistol event!
Earlier today, Korakaki had a great showing in qualifying finishing 3rd with 387 points. The 20-year old athlete kept calm in the final round and gathered 177.7 points (19.3, 19.0, 19.1, 21.0, 20.2, 19.4) from her 6 sets to win Greece's first medal at the 2016 Olympics, a Bronze medal. She finished behind gold medalist Zhang Mengxue from China (199.4 points) and Russian athlete Vitalina Batsarashkina who recorded 197.1 points. After winning the medal, Korakaki ran to celebrate with her father who is also her coach. It is Greece's first medal in shooting since the 1920 Olympics. Full smiles accompanied her at the medal ceremony as she saw our nation's flag rise up for the first time at Rio.
After her great accomplishment in the 10m pistol event, she will now turn her attention to the Women's 25m pistol competition where she is once again a favorite to win a medal. The 25m pistol is her stronger event and will look for her second medal at this year's Olympics on Tuesday, August 9th.
