TODAY'S COMPETING GREEK ATHLETES
Water Polo - Men's Tournament, Group Stage, Game 2: Serbia - Greece (9-9)
***The Greek National Water Polo Team played to a 9-9 draw in the second group match of the Men's Tournament against the World Champions Serbia. For more information on the match view here.
Fencing - Women's Sabre, Round of 32, Round of 16: Vassiliki Vougiouka
***Vassiliki Vougiouka cruised past American Dagmara Wozniak in the Round of 32 with a 15-8 victory. However, in the final 16 she was eliminated by the eventual gold medalist Yana Egorian from Russia. Despite taking an 10-6 lead, the Greek athlete could not qualify for the quarter-finals falling 15-11 to Egorian. Vougiouka announced that she was extremely unlucky and that the referees made favorable calls for her opponent.
Rowing – Men’s Coxless Four, Heat 3: Angelopoulos, Christou, Tsilis & Tziallas
***The Men's Coxless four team made it 3/3 for the Greek rowing teams after finishing their heat in 2nd place to qualify for the semi-finals. Greece finished 5th overall in qualifying with a time of 5:59.65.
Swimming – Men’s 200m Butterfly, Heat 3: Stefanos Dimitriadis
***Stefanos Dimitriadis was extremely unlucky not to qualify for the semi-finals of the event after completing his heat in 1:56.76 and finishing in 6th place. He missed out on the semi-finals by 0.04 seconds and claimed 18th place overall.
Sailing – Men’s RSX, Preliminary Races 1-3: Byron Kokkalanis
***Kokkalanis made a great debut at the Rio 2016 Olympics in the Men's RS:X Windsurf preliminaries. He finished in 3rd place after the first 3 races with hopes of qualifying for the Final and competing for an Olympic medal. He will give races 4-6 tomorrow.
Sailing – Women’s RSX, Preliminary Races 1-3: Angeliki Skarlatou
***Skarlatou finished in 12th place after her 3 races in the preliminary round. She will give her next three races tomorrow, hoping to climb up in the standings.
