- Viana Concludes Interesting Olympiacos Summer -
Olympiacos has completed their fourth and FINAL signing of the day with Brazilian defender Bruno Viana. The 21-year old was officially announced today by the club after arriving in Greece. Despite the many rumors, no Olympiacos players were sold on the final day of the transfer window.
Bruno Viana is 21-year old Brazilian center defender that was a personal choice of Paulo Bento. The current Olympiacos manager coached Viana at Cruzeiro and thinks of him as one of Brazil’s best upcoming talents in the central back position. Olympiacos has been looking for a central defender since the start of the summer, but only added right and left backs to their defense with Figueiras and de la Bella. With Olympiacos showing major problems in their back-line, the new signing houses many risks. Viana is a young, inexperienced defender and will be playing for the first time outside of Brazil. Olympiacos manager, Paulo Bento, is confident in the young Brazilian as he will add speed and strength to the Olympiacos defense. According to sportfm.gr, Olympiacos bought 80% of the player's rights for €2 million.
After very disappointing performances against Hapoel Be’er Sheva and Arouca in European play, many players were expected to leave and join the club. Since then, Olympiacos signed Andre Martins, Marko Marin, Tarik Elyounoussi, and today’s four signings while only Jimmy Durmaz, Arthur Masuaku, Patjim Kasami, and Alan Pulido were transferred out of the club. Rumors had Botia, da Costa, Siovas, Maniatis, Milivojevic, Seba, Pardo, and even Brown Ideye looking for a new team. However, no deals closed with any of the players mentioned and they will likely remain on the roster for the upcoming season (the transfer window in Turkey and Russia are still open).
Paulo Bento will have a full roster to chose from and will make certain cuts in his UEFA list of players (Europa League) that will be due by the end of the day.
