- Panionios Begins Where They left Off -
GREEK SUPERLEAGUE - MATCHDAY 3
|Panionios||3 - 0||Asteras Tripolis|
|Fountas 24', 57'
Panionios defeated Asteras Tripolis in their first game of their SuperLeague season. The Kyanerythri began this season where they left off after finishing in 5th place last year. Fountas scored two goals and Ansarifard netted another making up for missed penalty in the first half.
Panionios dominated the game from the opening whistle and were awarded a penalty in the 16th minute (Ioannidis handball). However, Ansarifard was denied by Kosicky to keep the scores at 0-0. In the 24th minute, a great set up from Ansarifard gave Fountas the easy tap in to give Panionios the lead. Seven minutes into the second half, the hosts doubled their advantage with Ansarifard. A mistake in the midfield gave Ben the opportunity to play a great through ball to Ansarifard, who this time beat Kosicky to double Panionios’ lead. Only minutes later, Taxiarchis Fountas sealed Panionios’ victory with his second goal of the night. The former Asteras Tripolis player beat Kosicky with a beautiful, acrobatic effort to give Panionios the three goal advantage. From that point on, Asteras “vanished” on the pitch and Panionios cruised to the final whistle.
Despite losing their coach, top goal scorer (Bakasetas to AEK), and making many changes to the roster, Panionios got off to a great start to the new year. They will now travel to Xanthi for Matchday 4 while Asteras Tripolis will have a tough match at home to PAOK next week.
